yurr (b. Leshan; raised in Chengdu) is a multidisciplinary artist and sound practitioner currently based in London, following eight years in Montréal. Her work examines the poetics of diasporic experience, focusing on how language, memory, and emotion migrate, dissolve, and reassemble across cultural and geographical boundaries.
Working across digital media, sound, and moving image, yurr constructs immersive, sensorial worlds where the real and the imagined coexist. Within these spaces, fragmented recollections become channels for collective memory, reflecting the subtle interplay between belonging and displacement.
Her practice draws from literature, feminist thought, and the textures of music—from jazz and city pop to experimental sound—infusing her work with a distinctive tone of nostalgic warmth and quiet estrangement. Through an approach that is both reflective and reconstructive, yurr treats art as an act of reclamation: a means of retrieving identity from silence and articulating the emotional language of diaspora in new, resonant forms.
